Patriots’ Edelman to miss season opener against Rams due to shoulder injury

Patriots tight end Edelman, who tore his ACL in November, is set to miss the opening game of the season against the Rams due the injury.

He will be out for at least two weeks, a source told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

The Patriots will be without wide receiver Julian Edelman for the season opener in Week 1.

AP Photo/Charles Krupa Edelman will not return to the lineup until Week 5, Rapopor said, because he is having arthroscopic surgery to repair the torn ACL in his right knee.

Edelman is expected to miss up to six months.

Edelmans season ended after the season with a torn ACL that was sustained while he was catching passes in the backfield in Week 9.

The injury will likely sideline him for a season.

Edelson was one of the NFL’s most dynamic receivers, but was a limited target.

He had career highs in receptions (64) and receiving yards (1,621).

He had six touchdowns in 2013 and had nine TDs in 2014.
